Ian 'popped in' last night on his way from Cape Town to Nelspruit! When I was a child 'popping in' was a bit different - it didn't involve such vast distances. Juliette was bridesmaid to a friend in Hermanus and Ian joined them there for the weekend - flying down on Friday evening and back yesterday afternoon. So I saw him for about an hour while he ate supper, had coffee (for which Juliette joined us) and then drove off as he is on duty today. They both looked somewhat tired - not surprising. Julz is staying in Pretoria to do all that needs to be done in preparation for their own wedding. Ian will be here again next Saturday - just for the day - as they attend an 'Understanding the Love of Your Life' Seminar which is being facilitated at our church.
Part of what makes life hectic, I think, is that we travel so much and so far. Gone are the days when one could cycle short distances to wherever. And there is so much that we get busy with we have to make an appointment to see a friend - no longer the possibility of just popping in for a quick cuppa something and chat when on the way to or from somewhere. Ten to one the friend is not at home, and that one's schedule is so tight that the time to pop-in is not there. Sadly, we are the poorer for it all.
